MRS Pamela North, of Barrowby, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 91.
She attended Barrowby School until leaving to go into service as a parlour maid at Newton’s. She then worked at Aveling Barford as a machine operator during the Second World War, making lorries and tanks for the soldiers. While there she met Phillip, an engineer, and they were married in July 1943 at St Anne’s Church, Grantham. They had two sons, Anthony and Peter and the family lived in Casthorpe Road, Barrowby.
Her husband died in November 1978 and she lived in Low Road in the village for a while.
Her sons later married and she has a grandson, Michael and great-grandchildren.
Mrs North was a private woman, who never spoke much about her past. She lived in Barrowby for most of her life. A proud and stubborn lady, she enjoyed gardening, taking holidays and knitting. She always loved having visitors, especially her great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her loved ones.
The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
