Mum's anger at 'disgusting' litter at children sports facility

A mum is angry after her young son had to play football surrounded by litter at the sports facility on Belton Lane, Great Gonerby.

The mum, who asked to remain anonymous, contacted the Journal after she and another parent collected and disposed of the rubbish themselves on Thursday, April 11.

The litter mainly included plastic drinks bottles, as well as crisp and sweet wrappers.

She said: “Leaving litter in a brand new football facility is disgusting.

“It was all around the goals where our children were playing. We were just stood there watching them play in this lovely new pitch scattered with litter so we decided to pick up the bottles as our good deed of the day. It didn’t take long but we want to raise awareness as a lot of young children use these facilities.”

The upgraded sports facilities at Great Gonerby playing field were funded from Wren’s FCC Community Action Fund and South Kesteven District Council.
