Staff at Grantham opticians Specsavers are sporting hairless legs after painful waxing – all for a good cause.
Four members of the team – director Bijal Ladva, dispensing optician Jim Hickey and optical assistants Stuart Cullingham and Chris Hollingworth – had their legs waxed in the store, in the Isaac Newton Shopping Centre, today (Tuesday), exchanging smooth legs for donations to Comic Relief.
Bijal told the Journal beforehand: “We are really happy to see people getting on board with what we’re doing.
“The most important thing to us is to raise as much as we can. We take a lot of pride in fund-raising for Comic Relief, and this way customers and staff can have fun in the process.
“We’re just hoping it doesn’t hurt too much!”
As well as the fund-raiser, the store is selling the official red Comic Relief specs. The glasses cost £2 and come in sizes for children and adults, complete with waving hands on either side. Customers are encouraged to raise awareness by posting their selfies on social media using #GiveUsAWave.
Specsavers in Grantham is supporting the charity to raise awareness for the poor and vulnerable in the UK and Africa. Specsavers is a partner of Red Nose Day and have set the goal of raising £250,000 across all their stores for the charity.
