THE latest in a series of blue plaques commemorating influential figures from Grantham’s past is to be unveiled at 2pm on Friday, November 11.
Lance Corporal Walter Parker VC will be remembered on the latest plaque, which will mark his birthplace in Agnes Street.
Parker was born in Grantham in 1881 and fought in the First World War.
He was decorated for his bravery in leading a party of stretcher-bearers to rescue injured soldiers despite heavy machine gun fire during the Gallipoli campaign.
Courtney Finn of Grantham Civic Society has led the way in producing the series of six blue plaques in various places in the town.
Several members of L Corp Parker’s family will attend the unveiling, along with other dignitaries and military representatives.
It was decided to hold the unveiling ceremony on Armistice Day to pay tribute to Parker’s military service.
