New committee for Grantham Business Club
New faces form the Grantham Business Club committee following its annual meeting on Wednesday evening.
Chairwoman is now Lesley Pashley, of marketing companies Nettl and Redlime, while vice-chairman is Shaun Whiting, of financial advisers Price Whiting Hodgson.
Also among the committee members is treasurer Kevin Swinbourne, a business relationship manager with Barclays bank.
The virtual meeting of the business club heard from two guest speakers, Grantham MP Gareth Davies and the new owner of the Angel & Royal Hotel, Dean Harrison.
Mr Davies talked to members about the work the Government is doing to support businesses in the Covid-19 pandemic and touched on specific projects he believes will be a boost for Grantham, including the £5.5 million granted to the town from the Future High Streets Fund.
He told the meeting that £38 million worth of grants had been distributed to local businesses by South Kesteven District Council.
He was followed by Mr Harrison, who talked about the project to restore the 13th Century Angel & Royal in High Street, one of the oldest hotels in the world.
He began with a description of a building which had been allowed to become dilapidated in places before explaining all the work that has gone into bringing it to the high standard it deserves.
He said it has gone from rats and damp in the cellar, “derelict” rooms and toilets in a “dire state” to redecorated with new beds, flooring, furniture and more in an extensive refurbishment.
Mr Harrison talked of a future of themed nights, live music and a focus on high quality food, adding: “There’s a gap in the market here in Grantham.”
He said: “It’s about service, it’s about standards and it’s about comfort.”
