New Grantham academy raises hundreds for charity

Pupils at the newly opened Springwell Alternative Academy on New Beacon Road, Grantham, have raised £550 for charity by hosting a Race for Life event.

Parents and local residents were invited to join them for the sponsored walk and run around the new school field earlier this month.

They also made their own gifts to sell on stalls including treat tins, lavender bags and cakes as well as a tombola with donated prizes to boost funds even further.

A spokesperson at the academy said: “Everyone made a fantastic effort to support the event and a huge total of £550 was raised for Cancer Research UK.”

The academy opened its doors last month for pupils who can no longer access mainstream education. It will accommodate 63 pupils aged between four and 16. It provides specialised teaching spaces, a special educational needs therapy room, sensory room, hygiene room, fitness suite, parents’ room, hall and multi-use games area.
