New leader of the South Kesteven Conservative Group announced
A unanimous vote has seen Councillor Bob Adams take over as leader of the South Kesteven Conservative Group.
Following the decision by the present leader of the council Coun Linda Neal not to seek re-election at the district council elections in May, a special meeting of the Conservative Group was held on yesterday evening (Monday), at which Coun Bob Adams was unanimously elected.
He said: “Whatever the outcome of the elections in May, both nationally and locally, difficult financial decisions will have to be made. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, and with the support of my Conservative colleagues I look forward to leading the group. I am sure we will meet all these challenges with determination and resolve.”
In accepting the nomination, he paid tribute to the dedicated service given by Coun Neal as a councillor for 20 years with 13 years as leader of SKDC.
She was praised for steering the council through difficult financial times, her hard work and dedication seeing the council’s rate support grant cut by some 45 per cent without the need to impose large council tax rises or reducing frontline services.
Coun Adams said: “Linda will be a hard act to follow.”
