Newsflash: Falling stones force emergency works on Grantham railway bridge, causing traffic chaos

A section of Barrowby Road in Grantham has been closed this afternoon (Monday) following reports of falling ballast from the railway on to the road below.

Ballast, the stone which runs along railway track, fell on to the road this morning, leading to checks being carried out by Network Rail workers.

A spokesman confirmed: “We had reports that ballast was falling through the bridge when trains were going past.”

Trains are still running but speed restrictions are in place.

The road is closed and will remain closed while further work is carried out on the bridge overnight.
