The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in South Kesteven has fallen.

Figures released by the Department of Work and Pensions, show that the number of claimants in the South Kesteven District Council area last month stood at 1,040 people.

That is a fall of 185 from 1,225 people compared to October last year.

It means that 75.1 per cent of the district’s working age population are currently in employment - just above the national average of 73 per cent of working age people in employment, which itself is a record high for the country.

The new figures also show that the number of claimants aged 18-24 dropped to 256 last month compared to 340 a year ago.
