Mr Alfred Roland Wright, of Pastures Road, Barrowby, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 100.

Mr Wright, known as Roly, leaves his wife Christine, grandson Simon, and children Mavis, Roy and Sheila. His daughter Carolyn predeceased him in 1995.

Mr Wright was born in Sproxton in 1913 and lived in the Grantham area until the start of the Second World War, when he served in the Royal Army Service Corps in Scotland and Italy. He then lived in Scunthorpe and worked as a watch and clock repairer, before continuing his trade in the Isle of Man, where he was also chief sector marshall for the TT motorcycle races. On his retirement the family returned to settle in Barrowby.

Mr Wright enjoyed his garden and had a keen interest in antiques. He was a committed volunteer for Lincolnshire Red Cross, taking the money on the gate for their open garden events. He also enjoyed time and meals shared with family and friends.

The funeral service was held at All Saints Church, Barrowby, conducted by the Rev Peter Hopkins, followed by a private cremation.
