Obituary: Mr Noel Mitchell

Have your say

Mr Noel Mitchell, has died at home. He was 74.

Born in Balderton, Newark, he was the youngest of 11 children.

After school he began work as a butchery errand boy and later joined his two brothers in their butchery business in Caythorpe.

He met his future wife at a dance in Marston and they were married in Long Bennington 53 years ago.

The couple’s first home was in Newark. They have two sons, Nicholas and Tony.

Mr Mitchell and his wife ran her family’s bakery shop in Long Bennington and when the bakery closed, he spent time working at Fenland Foods in Grantham. He later turned the shop into a house, doing much of the work himself.

During the 1990s he turned his hand to making pine furniture, later turning his garage into a workshop where he continued making furniture and bird boxes.

Mr Mitchell was able to mend anything, and he always had a project on the go. He was generous with both his time and equipment and was never idle.

His interests included fishing and golf.
