Former Grantham beauty queen, Mrs Anne Kathlyn Cranfield (nee Pexton), has died in Abbey Court Nursing Home, Bourne. She was 68.
Born in the London borough of Croydon, she was the daughter of Jim and Vera Pexton and later sister to Clive.
Soon after the Second World War the family moved to Grantham, where Anne grew up and was educated.
She met her beloved husband David at Harlaxton Youth Club and they were married at St Wulfram’s Church in 1964. They soon moved to Sussex to manage a dairy farm. During that time they had three children, Heath, Claire and Lynsey and spent many happy years there.
In 1975 they returned to Lincolnshire to run their own farms, firstly in Wilsthorpe, then Crowland, before settling in Edenham.
Most of Mrs Cranfield’s time was spent on the farm, either working or enjoying the outdoors, especially the shire horses that they bred and showed.
In the early 1970s she was diagnosed with MS but she never let this stop her enjoying life, especially time spent with her family.
Her zest for life and infectious smile will stay forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
The funeral service, to celebrate her life, was conducted by Canon Christopher Andrews at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
