Mrs Doris Marson has died in Nottingham City Hospital. She was 92.

Born in Arnold, Nottingham, her mother ran a grocery and confectionery shop.

In her early teens her mother sent her on holiday to Skegness, and while there she met her future husband, Bill.

Her first job was in a cigarette factory in Nottingham.

In 1941 she married Bill in Arnold. Their twin sons, John and William, were born in 1944 and Mrs Marson worked full time in her mother’s shop.

Between 1947 and 1954 Mrs Marson had three more children, Robert, Odelle and Paul.

The family moved to Barkestone le Vale in 1967. Together they enjoyed caravan holidays in Wales.

Mr and Mrs Marson celebrated their golden wedding in 1992. Mr Marson died in 1996.

Despite mobility problems, Mrs Marson led a full life and she had great strength of character. She travelled each Tuesday and Saturday on the bus to Melton Mowbray, to shop and meet friends.

She regularly attended Barkeston le Vale church and was on the cleaning rota. Later she attended Plungar church.

The funeral service was held at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Barkestone le Vale and cremation followed at Wilford Hill, Nottingham.

Family mourners included: Terry and Odelle Rawlaings, Victoria Rawlings, John and Hilary Marson, William Marson, Paul and Mary Marson, Daniel and Michelle Marson, Robert Marson, David Marson, Craig Marson and Hayley Slark, Paul and Elaina Gracey, Mandy and Jessica Spicer, Susan Thomas and Victoria Priestley.

Other mourners included: Bruce and Carole Rawlings, Pat Stapleford, Dennis and Joan Kirk, Joy Taylor (nee Rowbottom), Pauline Poyser, Mr and Mrs P. Hawkins, Jane Morris, Sara Robinson, Neil Thurlby, Michael and Anne Phillips, John Daybell, Alan Bryan, Edward Meeks, Monica Meeks, Janet Wood, Mr G. Marriott and Mrs B. Marriott, John Dewick, and Eileen Glasper (Hills).

Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.

Donations for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance amount to £161 to date.
