Obituary: Mrs Kathleen Newton

Mrs Kathleen Newton, late of Bottesford and Long Bennington, has died in Parklands Care Home, Newark. She was 93.

Born in Church Street, Long Bennington, she was one of eight children and had six brothers and a sister.

She attended Long Bennington School until the age of 14, when she went into service.

At the age of 19 she met Harry, and they later married and moved to Easthorpe in 1946.

In 1953 she and Harry took over the newsagents in Bottesford and remained there until Harry retired.

Mrs Newton was a very busy and active member of the church in Bottesford.

She arranged flowers, fund-raised and generally joined in with all church activities.

Later on she enjoyed holidaying; she learned to ride a horse when in her 70s.

She also enjoyed a party and working in her garden.

Mrs Newton led a very full and happy life and moved to Parklands some two years ago.

She leaves her daughter Gill, granddaughters Rebecca and Sally, great-grandsons Tom and Max and brother Ernest.

The funeral service took place at St Swithun’s Church, Long Bennington, conducted by the Rev Harriet Orridge. Burial followed in the churchyard.

Marris, Geoff, Wendy and Jessica Carman, Chris and Trac Sterling, Beatrice Tuckwood, Linda Matthews, Barbara Smith, Beryl Winter, Beate Hawker, Mick and Anne Beale, Joyce Bainbridge, Ian and Stephanie Hall, John and Pam Rees, John Topps (Bottesford Church), Gerald Taylor, Jill and Nev Bagnall, Steve Norris, Ken Roberts, Margaret Parker, Peter and Elaine Holmes, Michael and Joy Taylor, Mrs E. Taylor, Frieda Woll, and Christine and Mike Saunders.

Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.

Donations to be divided between Long Bennington and Bottesford Churches amount to £222.36 to date.
