Obituary: Mrs M. L. Rosling

Mrs Marjorie Lily Rosling (Madge), of High Road, Londonthorpe, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 97.

Born at Dunsby Houses, Brauncewell, she was the daughter of Stephen and Annie Waling.

Mrs Rosling was sister to Kathleen and the late Muriel and Walter.

When she was four years old the family moved to Londonthorpe, where Mrs Rosling then lived for the rest of her life.

She was married to Len for 52 years and they had two children, Valerie and Robert, followed by two grandchildren, Rosie and Tom.

At the age of 14 she left school and helped her father on his fruit and vegetable delivery round.

She was in service in Grantham for two years and then worked at Woolworths.

During the Second World War she worked in the office at Ruston and Hornsby.

For many years Mrs Rosling delivered newspapers in Londonthorpe and other local villages, driving around in an old Austin 7 Ruby during the 1950s. She subsequently worked at Grantham Hospital until her retirement in 1981.

Mrs Rosling was a busy and active person for most of her life. She enjoyed gardening and cooking with produce from her garden. She loved living in her old stone house in Londonthorpe.

Arthur Summerfield conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel. Her ashes will be interred in Londonthorpe churchyard.

Family mourners included: Valerie Rosling, Robert Rosling, Mary George, Rosie Rosling, Tom Rosling, Marian Rosling, Kathleen and Harold Fieldsend, Martin and Maddy Bland, Barbara and Stan Greensmith, David Waling, Alan and Jean Waling, Kathleen and Denis Crisp, Trevor and Angela Fieldsend, Joan and Michael King, Rob and Joan Bland, Jill Bland, Jane Smith, Daphne and Eddie Edwards, and Joan Mary Pickering.

Other mourners included: Robert Scott, Alec and Sheila Cox, Mavis Glenn, Karen Moulding, Colin Hewitt, Enid Hewitt, John Fisher, Shirley and Peter Dowson, Maisie Culpin, Josie Hempstock, Rachael Marshall, Ann Kilroy and Lois Diggins.

Funeral arrangements were by David Holland, London Road, Grantham.

Donations for the Alzheimer’s Society and the British Heart Foundation amount to £270 to date.
