By Grantham Reporter

Olympic champion and world record holder Jonathan Edwards CBE will be the guest of honour at this year’s Summer Cup in which students from Charles Read Academy will compete.

The triple jump champion will be the latest sports star to attend the annual event with Lord Seb Coe, Dame Kelly Holmes, Denise Lewis OBE and Colin Jackson having already taken part in previous years.

The Summer Cup is organised by the David Ross Education Trust, which works with 34 primary and secondary academies across the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the East of England.

Jonathan will be supported by a number of Team GB athletes including Colin Jackson CBE, Sally Walton, Joe Roebuck and Marilyn Okoro.

Jonathan, who is also a World, European and Commonwealth triple jump champion, will inspire and motivate students as they compete during the Trust-wide sports competition.

He recorded a special message to inspire and encourage each student taking part.
