TEN hairy men will undergo a painful transformation for charity - by having their body hairs ripped out!

The brave pals have decided the best way to encourage people to part with their cash is to put themselves through the painful experience of a hair waxing session.

So don’t be surprised if you hear wails of agony as you pass the King’s Arms pub, in Westgate, Grantham, on Sunday, August 28.

The idea to raise money for Cancer Research UK was suggested by Carl Garner, of Uplands Drive, Grantham. With his 30th birthday approaching in September, he decided it called for a night out on the town in a woman’s dress, wig and make-up. And of course that means hairless legs.

Carl said: “It all kind of grew from that into doing it for charity. I was going to do a sponsored wax by myself, but people started saying they’d do it with me.

“We must be mad!”

Although the idea to turn it into a fund-raiser was sudden, Carl wasted no time in choosing to support Cancer Research UK, because cancer has plagued members of his family. An auntie died from the disease two years ago and an uncle has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Meanwhile, Carl’s cousin has fought off leukaemia and is now in remission.

Carl said: “I’ve always said if I was going to raise money for a charity it would be Cancer Research, because it means so much to the family.”

Carl and his friends are making a whole day of the event. There will also be a kids’ fancy dress competition, face painting, a bowling lane, balloon release, karaoke, a raffle, barbecue and more.

Everyone is welcome to go along - and there might also be an opportunity of pulling a wax strip yourself.

Carl said: “Come down and have a laugh and a joke.”

The event will run from 1.30pm to 7.30pm, with the waxing starting at 3pm, by beauticians from UK Hair and Beauty, in Commercial Road, Grantham.
