Our verges are in disgusting state

By Grantham Reporter

It was interesting to read the comments from the council about their great efforts and achievements to tidy up the town and keep Grantham looking more attractive.

Is the maintenance of grass verges not included in this scheme? We can understand how the residents of Dryden Close feel over the disgusting state of their verges but they are not alone. We do not live in a Close and the state of our verges (and others around town) is equally appalling.

Contrary to what Coun Richard Davies says these verges DO need to be cut by the council. Residents only struggle to keep their areas looking neat and tidy because of the council’s neglect. The leader of SKDC, Matthew Lee, says that the weather is responsible for the grass growing - surprise, surprise! In our wildest dreams we would never have made this dramatic connection! This is still not an excuse. When the verges are finally cut we dread to imagine the mess that could be left behind.

When friends from Manchester visited us recently their first comment was that they had never seen the town looking so neglected and unkempt.
