Plans have been submitted to create the first bespoke rabbit and guinea pig hotel in the UK.

Hop Inn wants to create the business on a site close to Goadby Marwood by re-locating its existing pet boarding facilities at Stonesby.

The business was established five years ago in a barn attached to an 18th century grade two listed building but the property is no longer big enough to cope with demand, according to plans submitted to Melton planners.

The new premises, which would be built on a seven-acre site on the road between Waltham and Eastwell, would enable the owners to triple the indoor accommodation and significantly increase outdoor grazing and reduce transport costs.

The owners also plan to sell quality meadow hay there and continue growing Christmas trees for sale, as well as provide educational services.

Plans to be considered by councillors state: “With an established business model and a client base of more than 150 there is now the opportunity to create the first bespoke rabbit and guinea pig hotel in the UK to meet demand for this rapidly growing market.”
