Please support the King's School Toy Bank - it's a fantastic cause
Column by Grantham King's School student Callum Sutton
With a general election on the horizon, Brexit delayed for yet another extension, and politics rife in our papers and news outlets, it was very tempting to continue my series of columns focusing on the current political climate we are dealing with.
However, in a change from the norm, I feel that a rest from the doom and gloom is something much needed.
The King’s School Toy Bank is up and running for its fifth year, with this year promising bigger and better things than the last. Last year, the Toy Bank managed to ensure that 229 children woke up on Christmas day with a significant stash of presents under their tree.
This year, the school is working with its new, enthusiastic cohort of students to assure the community that this valuable asset to the Grantham Christmas scene will be as vibrant and accommodating as ever.
In the doom and gloom surrounding current affairs and news at the moment, it’s easy to discount that there is any good will or charity left in communities at all.
Indeed, Grantham doesn’t have the most abundant reputation for bustling success in retail, leisure and population satisfaction, especially after being voted the UK’s most boring town some years ago.
This is why the King’s School Toy Bank is, and has always been such a glimmer of hope and comfort for the community thus far and the message behind this project couldn’t be clearer. Delivering a happy Christmas to each child, no matter of their circumstances.
Charity is such an important value of the festive season, and the Toy Bank really is a testament to Grantham’s charitable and plentiful community spirit.
The Toy Bank is run solely from non-profit donations ranging from the letting of the site, shelving and decorations, down to the simple donations of toys to the project. That is why I urge you all to support this fantastic cause, by donating new or good conditioned toys to the Toy Bank to ensure no child goes without this Christmas.
The Toy Bank is running a drop off point at King’s which is open now, ideally to be used at 8-8.45am and 11.15-11.35am at the double doors located just inside the entrance to the school. More information about further drop off points will be available on the Toy Bank’s Facebook page in the next coming days.
Life can be a challenge to make it through the day without losing hope and joy in the world. So please, donate to this deserving cause and ensure that no child loses hope or joy this Christmas time.
