Two vehicles in the Grantham area were stolen this week, prompting police to further urge motorists not to leave their keys inside or near their motors.

Just after 1pm on Wednesday, a white Mercedes panel van was stolen from Tollemache Road South. The keys were left in the van and a thief jumped in and stole it (incident 170 of February 2).

At around 11.35am yesterday (Thursday) a silver Mercedes Benz ML 320 sports car with the keys left in was stolen from Freiston Road in Hough-on-the-Hill (incident 125 of February 25).

Both thefts are being investigated and any possible links will be explored, said a Lincolnshire Police spokesman.

Grantham Inspector Gary Stewart added: “We’re urging people to please remember this message and be sensible about not leaving keys near or inside insecure vehicles. Don’t try and second guess the criminals who do this type of thing for a living.”

If you have any information in relation to either of the incidents, call the non-emergency number 101, quoting either of the incident numbers above. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
