Probation Service staff were out on strike this morning (Wednesday), in protest against the Government’s plan to privatise the public service.

The coalition proposes to sell off 70 per cent of the Probation Service to firms such as G4S and Serco, a move which probation officers feel is a risk to public protection.

Members of the National Association of Probation Officers in Grantham carried out a 24-hour strike from noon on Tuesday, joining thousands of colleagues across England and Wales.
