Local people are being asked for their views on how mineral extraction and waste management is carried out in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire County Council is currently preparing the Lincolnshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan. As part of this, it is consulting residents on a document which sets out how the council proposes to guide mineral extraction and waste management development in the county and the criteria against which related planning applications will be considered.

Consultation began yesterday (Monday), and comments need to be received by 5pm on February 16.

Councillor Colin Davie, executive member for planning, said: “There have been a number of changes to the planning system since we last spoke to local communities about this issue, so it makes sense for us to consult them again.

“We want to make sure that all future mineral extraction and waste management activities are carried out in a sustainable way, protecting both the environment and local communities.

“And this consultation is an opportunity for people influence the way we approach this at an important stage.”

Copies of the consultation document will be available in libraries and at various council offices during normal opening hours or view the document, its supporting papers, and make comments online.
