Plans by Italian restaurant chain Prezzo to open an eatery in Grantham have been given the go ahead.

The renown chain is expected to create up to 20 jobs when it opens its restaurant in two adjoining empty units in St Peter’s Hill.

Officers at South Kesteven District Council have just agreed to give the proposals the green light.

The units, which were once occupied by Santander bank and the Scope charity and are next to Costa coffee, have been empty for some time and appear shabby.

In a notice outlining the reason for approval, Paul Thomas, the council’s executive manager for development and growth, states: “The application would bring back into use two vacant units enhancing the local economy and vibrancy of the town centre.

“Alterations to the shopfront would also result in an enhancement on the existing street scene.”

However, before any alterations can be made to the units the firm has to secure approval for a suitable air filtration system to reduce cooking odours.

It is intended that the Prezzo restaurant will be open from noon to 11.30pm seven days a week.

A spokesman for Prezzo has previously told the Grantham Journal that if the plans were approved it was hoped the restaurant would be open by Christmas.
