Protesters voice their anger at rail fare rise at Grantham Station

By Grantham Reporter

Members of the Grantham Labour Party protested against a rise in the cost of rail fares at Grantham Station on Wednesday.

Speaking afterwards, group secretary John Morgan said: “Fares went up an average of 3.1 per cent today, and have increased by 36 per cent since the Conservatives came to power in 2010. That is three times faster than wages have gone up.

“The Tories could have done something about it, but have preferred to let rail companies rip off consumers, once again.”

He added that bringing the East Coast main line back into public ownership would allow “a better, more integrated service”.
