Pupils enjoy picnic at new Grantham primary school

A new primary school invited its first cohort of pupils to join them for a Teddy Bears picnic last weekend.

Poplar Farm School, just off Barrowby Road, will open its door to 49 pupils next month.

The new pupils gathered on the school field last Saturday afternoon along with their families and favourite teddy bears who were dressed in a range of imaginative attire.

They were given the opportunity to meet their peers and teachers through a series of fun games and activities that were delivered by staff after the picnic.

Families also got to take part in a range of activities, including glitter face painting, giant Jenga and football.

Brightstars, who will provide wraparound care provision, also hosted a selection of activities as they introduced themselves to the pupils and their families.

All of the pupils went home with a special surprise after being presented with a brand new teddy bear, sponsored by David Wilson Homes, who have houses for sale on the new estate.

Bev Hall, David Wilson Homes East Midlands sales director, said: “We were delighted to be able to support this event which will help the new pupils of Poplar Farm School settle into their new school before term starts.

“As we are building homes at Newton’s Place, many of our residents will benefit from having a school on site and we wanted to give the pupils something they could keep and treasure long after the event had finished.”

Prizes were given out to the owners of the three ‘Best Dressed Teddy Bears’, who all received a gift from the principal designate, Jenny Wheeldon.

Mrs Wheeldon said: “We wanted to offer our new pupils a chance to get to know each other prior to September. The weather stayed dry and everyone had a fantastic afternoon.

“It was lovely to meet all the families and to see our Class of 2018 playing and having fun together. Thanks to David Wilson Homes for donating the teddies for the children.”

“I am so proud to be part of such a fabulous, committed and hard working team here at Poplar Farm School.

“We can’t wait to open our doors on Wednesday, September 5.”
