Grantham Journal letter: Mess is sign of the times, sadly

By Grantham Reporter

Last week’s page on fly-tipping, whilst depressing, was sadly a sign of the times.

I walk a lot in various places in the UK and rubbish is everywhere.

For instance, anyone who travels using the A1 will have seen the hundreds if not thousands of tonnes of litter on the verges just between the Trent at Newark and the Cambridgeshire border at Wittering.

I have tried to have action taken to redress the situation, however Lincolnshire Highways place the responsibility on Highways England and they say it is to dangerous to clear the mess.

Until we are prepared to do more than threaten prison and/or give out really heavy fines then nothing will change.

We taxpayers can ask where our money goes and then be fobbed off with predictable responses.
