A section of the A15 has been closed around Silk Willoughby and Quarrington following a straw bales fire over the weekend.
The road was closed just after 6.15pm yesterday (Sunday) around the A15/A153 roundabout because of heavy smoke in the area as a result of the fire which involved 24,000 bales of straw. It has now been put out but the road is expected to remain closed until this evening as a precaution because of concerns that forecast high winds could cause the fire to reignite.
Local diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area until the road is re-opened.
Three juveniles, all males, have been arrested on suspicion of arson. One boy, who was arrested yesterday, has since been released on police bail while the two other individuals will be spoken to by officers in due course
