Sam represents town cadets at the famous Nijmegen marches

A CADET from Grantham successfully completed this year’s gruelling Nijmegen marches.

Cadet Flt Sgt Sam Dodd, 18, spent ten days in Holland completing the four-day marches, with each march comprising 25-miles.

It is the second year Sam has represented the Grantham squadron as a member of the Trent Wing team.

Sam said: “There is a huge sense of pride having completed one of the toughest challenges open to the cadet organisation and great relief that I don’t have to wake up early the next morning to walk another 25 miles!”

The march started at 4.30am each morning. Each march comprised a different 25-mile route around Nijmegen and the surrounding countryside towns and villages.

The fourth and final day was completed in huge military style with a massed march with several hundred members of the military marching through the centre of Nijmegen in a column four-abreast.

Sam plans on returning to next year and completing the march for the third year running.

He is also considering tackling other marches around the world such as the Dodentoche or “Death March” in Belgium or marches in the USA, Australia, and Japan.
