A founder member of South Kesteven District Council and former district councillor for 44 years Jeff Thompson is a well-known man about town and was this month awarded a Membership Award by the Showmen’s Guild.

Mr Thompson, 72, received the prestigious award at the regional Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain Annual Civic Luncheon held on Friday, January 15 at Nottingham Belfry House.

“It was a complete shock,” said Mr Thompson. “I had no idea that I was going to be presented with an award - it was a lovely surprise.”

Mr Thompson who has supported the Showmen’s Guild for a number of years, has regularly attended similar awards events hosted by the club.

“It was quite emotional,” said Mr Thompson, who was joined on the night by his wife, Janet. “We both thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.”

District councillor Ian Selby, who also attended the event said: “This award was a total surprise to Jeff. I saw the look on his face when he realised that he was the recipient, he was gobsmacked and so chuffed to receive it.

“I have known Jeff for over 20 years and I can not recall seeing him so surprised and thrilled to receive an award from an organisation. It clearly meant a lot to him and the Showmen’s Guild very much appreciate Jeff’s support over the years.”
