Sink hole in Grantham street is 'accident waiting to happen'

A sink hole on a street in Grantham is ‘an accident waiting to happen’ according to a resident who lives nearby.

Don Atkinson, 80, has repeatedly reported the sink hole on Springfield Road, Grantham, to Lincolnshire County Council (LCC)

He said: “They keep filling it but it keeps reopening.”

Don, who has lived on Walton Gardens off Springfield Road, for 42 years, said: “Lots of people use that pavement.

"I am worried that it wont be long until a child trips and breaks their leg. They should go back to the old way of filling it with tar.”

After being contacted by the Journal this week, councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “We’re aware of the issues with the ‘sink hole’ on Springfield Road and have had it filled by our contractors.

“We inspected the site again and the repairs appear to be holding. We will continue to monitor the situation but if it does re-open, it should be reported at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/faultreporting.”
