Sinkhole opens up near flats on Grantham street

A large sinkhole has opened up on a grass embankment just metres away from a block of flats in Grantham.

The hole appeared infront of a large block of flats on Springfield Road, Grantham.

A member of the public who lives nearby contacted the Journal after spotting the sink hole yesterday.

He said: "It must be about 20ft wide. I don't know what this means for the residents living in the flats nearby. I wouldn't like living near that."

Anglian Water has sectioned off the area. A spokesperson said: “We don’t yet know what has caused this, but our initial investigations have found a section of damaged sewer pipe which needs to be repaired. Customers can still use their toilets and washing facilities as normal.

“Once the hole has been excavated our teams can properly assess the damage we’ll be able to give a better estimate of how long the repair will take. We are sorry for any disruption this might cause, and we’d like to thank local residents for their patience while we investigate further.”
