Dogs lapped up the sunshine as they took all the plaudits at the Old Somerby dog show and fete on Sunday.

Organiser Veronica Stephens hailed the event a success, raising at least £1,300 for the village church of St Mary Magdalene.

Veronica said: “I am very pleased. It went very well. It was well supported by people from outside the village as well. The quality of entries for the dog show was very good.

“We last held a show five years ago and I think we will hold another one.”

The best dog in show was an 11-year-old springer spaniel. A good selection of breeds took part in the show, which included several categories. Among the breeds were a Jack Russell, boxer, Northern Inuit and bulldog.

The event also featured children’s games, tombola and a barbecue.
