Specialist insurer prepares for growth with move to new home in Grantham
A thriving specialist insurance company has just moved to new premises in Grantham in a relocation that could pave the way for more jobs.
Mark Bates Ltd has just moved its business from two different venues in the town to one dedicated base in Londonthorpe Road overlooking the Belton Park golf course.
Created 21 years ago, the firm has operated from offices behind the Grantham Squash and Fitness Centre, in Harlaxton Road, and from a unit near the Morrisons supermarket.
The new offices were opened in style with a celebratory toast to the future when the insurance firm invited Grantham and Stamford MP Nick Boles, who is also the Government’s business minister, to unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.
Alex Wade, the firm’s business development director, said: “The new premises represent a sizeable investment with lots of lease options and an opportunity to purchase the unit in the future.
“The move had been on the agenda about a year ago and there has been a serious search for a suitable sitesfor about six months.
“It was difficult to find premises that had enough space and parking for staff.
“At one stage it was suggested we could move to Long Bennington but our managing director Mark Bates is passionate about keeping the company in Grantham.
“We even considered building our own offices.”
Mr Wade said the firm employs 55 members of staff and that the number had been growing each year.
He said: “Logistically it just made sense to have all our staff in one building.
“The new premises are large enough to cope with future expansion.
“We hope we may be able to take up to 10 extra members of staff next year and now we have the room to do that.
He added: “There are several new insurance schemes which we will be bringing to the market in autumn this year and early next year.”
Mark Bates Ltd specialises in offering best value insurance for people with disabilities and the over 50s and has more than 500,000 customers.
It provides insurance for users of mobility scooters, powered wheelchairs, stairlifts, pets, holidays and homes.
