The roadworks in Springfield Road are set to be finished by next Saturday (Sept 28).
Lincolnshire County Councillor Richard Davies apologised for the delays but said the town will now benefit from the £500,000 investment in the road network in Springfield Road.
Coun Davies said: “This is a good day for Grantham. The changes we’ve made are important and will help reduce congestion in the town.
“It’s the first in a number of important projects that will enhance Grantham’s road infrastructure and I’m certain that the next five years are going to be hugely exciting for this town.”
The work has seen Springfield Road junction widened and a new left-turn lane created. The existing traffic lights have also been upgraded. A delay caused by an entangled gas main had resulted in the project being delivered several weeks late but all that remains to do now is resurface the road, and then paint on the road markings.
Coun Davies said he will speak to the major utility companies in an effort to prevent any repeat of the problems on this project.
“To a certain extent the problems we encountered were out of our control but I’m not interested in excuses – it was simply not good enough.”
