Staff and pupils at Charles Read Academy are celebrating following the opening of two state of the art science laboratories as part of a continued redevelopment of the Corby Glen site.

As well as a complete overhaul of the laboratories, significant investment has also been made in science equipment and up-to-date learning technologies.

Principal Robert Sloan said: “This is fantastic news. We now have science facilities that match the enthusiasm and passion our students and staff have for science subjects at Charles Read.

“They have been desperate to get into the new laboratories during the redevelopment work, and now that they are using them you can really see the impact they are having on learning.”

Since joining the David Ross Education Trust in 2013, Charles Read Academy has received considerable financial support to upgrade and refurbish the site.

Mr Sloan said: “Wherever you look in the school, you can start to see the improvements that are being made. Musicians are enjoying our new music block, the 3G all-weather sports pitch is close to being opened, our new Year 7 hub is taking shape and the library has been refreshed.”

Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust, said: “Science is at the heart of the curriculum, so it is only right that, if we are pushing students academically, we give them the best resources and facilities we can to help them achieve their ambitions and goals.

“In addition to the work we have already undertaken, more is planned in the future. We have very high aspirations for Charles Read Academy.”
