A pair of teenage burglars were caught trying to flee on foot with a 32-inch screen television, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

Gary Moore and Christopher Gwyther attracted attention as they walked through the streets of Grantham in the early hours of the morning carrying the television set.

Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, said that Moore also had a computer games console stuffed down the front of his trousers.

A witness who saw them on Station Street in the town contacted police and the pair were arrested.

The items had been taken during a raid on the home of a family in Norton Street, Grantham.

Mr Dee said the occupiers were asleep and they only realised what had happened when the father of the household got up at 3.30 am to find the front door of the property wide open. He discovered that the television and games console were missing along with a DVD boxed set of the Alien Trilogy.

But by that time both Moore and Gwyther were under arrest as a result of the witness contacting police.

Gary Moore, 18, of Monson Street, Lincoln, and Christopher Gwyther, 19 , of Ivatt Court, Grantham, each admitted burglary on 5 February.

Sentence was deferred on Moore for six months. Gwyther was given a nine month jail sentence suspended for 18 months with six months supervision, a six month alcohol treatment programme and 100 hours of unpaid work.
