A GROUP of teenagers are spending their time volunteering at projects designed to help our community.
The 16-year-olds are helping at various places including Compass Day Care and Newton House Care Home, in Barrowby Road, Grantham.
Jess Bacon signed up for the intiative, which is organised by the National Citizens Service, part of the Education Business Partnership.
She said: “There was so much interest in getting involved that they had to turn people down.”
“We’ve got to do 30 hours of volunteering time into the community, we chose to go into nursing homes to improve the quality of life in different ways.”
Some of the group at Newton House Care Home, including Jess, were painting and gardening, with free supplies from B&Q, at the back of the home while others were doing activities with residents.
Jess added: “It is different to how I expected it. I didn’t realise how much hard work the staff here have to put in.”
Head of activities at Newton House Janet Plant said: “I’m pleased with how they are doing so far. They seem very mature and responsible.
“The elderly like to interact with the young people, we find it’s very benficial.”
