Thefts reported at building sites near Grantham

Police say there have been suspicious activity and a number of thefts in the past few weeks at building sites in rural areas around Grantham.

Lincolnshire Police say the sites range from small home improvements where only a minimal amount of tools, equipment and materials are stored to larger home builds, up to much larger construction sites with substantial volumes of materials and multiple pieces of plant and equipment.

A police spokesman said: “Only a few sites have been subjected to actual theft, but there have been reports of things being moved about between cease work in the evening and return the next day. This is likely to be people taking an interest and noting things that may be of use in the future.

“The majority of suspicious circumstances have been reported as enquiries have been made relating to a different incident rather than directly via 101.

“Suspicious circumstances and activity needs to be reported via 101 no matter how innocuous it may appear as rural crime relies on not being seen or noticed. If something strange is happening and police are then in the area the criminal will be aware that the target is perhaps not quite appealing.

“Advice can also be given as to how to minimise the risk of losing tools, equipment or materials.”
