Fuel prices drop below £1 per litre at Grantham petrol station
A Grantham petrol station is charging less than £1 per litre of petrol.
Motorists still on the road during lockdown can buy petrol at less than £1 per litre at the Asda filling station, which is currently charging 99.7 pence per litre. Diesel is 104.7p per litre.
This is a significantly lower price compared to the rest of the fill-up stations in the town - it costs 102.9 pence per litre of petrol and 108.9 per litre of diesel at Sainsbury's and 106.9 and 112.9 at Esso on London Road.
Morrisons was the first supermarket to charge below the one pound mark across their 337 filling stations in the country. Competitors Asda and Tesco have quickly followed suit.
Nationwide, anyone filling up at a Morrisons or Asda petrol station will pay a maximum of 99.7 pence per litre on petrol, while from today [Tuesday] Tesco customers will pay no more than 99.9 pence per litre.
UK drivers have seen petrol fall below one pound a litre on just one occasion since the financial crisis of 2008-09.
Ashley Myers, head of fuel for Morrisons, said: "This cut will help people who are travelling to work, those shopping for essentials, and those assisting the elderly and vulnerable."
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “It remains to be seen how long prices this low will persist for, with some early indication that wholesale petrol prices have started to rise as a result of the world oil price creeping up.”
