Thrill-seeking pupils treated to day at a theme park

Thrill-seeking pupils from two local schools were treated to a free day out at a theme park earlier this month.

Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club took a coach load of students from Ambergate School and Young People’s Learning Provision (YPLP) Trent Road, for an exciting day out at Wicksteed Theme Park, Northamptonshire, after teaming up with ‘Kids Out - the fun and happiness charity.’

The youngsters, many of whom had never been to a theme park, wasted no time in testing their nerves on the roller-coasters, go-karts, water chutes and other rides with their teachers and the Sunrisers.

Sunrise president Lez Jones said: ‘They were enthralled by all that was on offer, and took advantage in trying out as many rides as was possible.

“It was an absolute delight to see their excited faces, and the enjoyment that they shared.”

KidsOut provides positive experiences for disadvantaged children to help support them in becoming future members of our society and workforce.

Every June, the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland together with KidsOut take over 25,000 disadvantaged children on a fun day out.

The children visit the seaside, theme parks, adventure playgrounds and zoos, giving them all memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Lez added: “This will be an annual activity for us as a group and our local schools. I am already looking forward to next year, and surprisingly, so are the young people.”
