'Too fearful to go to Belvoir Hunt demonstration' says Grantham Journal reader
Reader letter: I am a fairly average person, but I was a coward today – I was too fearful to attend the Boxing Day demonstration, since there can be hotheads in any group of people.
Despite fox hunting being illegal, the Belvoir Hunt is still ‘approved’, as indicated by the invitation to Grantham on Boxing Day.
It is wrong to deliberately subject any animal to pain, terror, and even death so that some people can enjoy themselves – just what sort of people find this enjoyable?
There are cries of “no hunting would mean loss of jobs” (I’ve been made redundant twice myself and picked myself up), and “it’s necessary to control the fox population” (there are humane ways to do that).
Fox hunting was democratically voted to be illegal years ago, and that ban should be enforced.
Dog-fighting, hare-coursing, and fox hunting should all be consigned to history, if we are to call ourselves civilised people.
