Top riders lined up for Belton trials

World-class riders from at least 18 countries will be saddling up for what promises to be the biggest Belton Horse Trials in the event’s 32-year history from April 4 to 6.

Many former Olympic medal winners are taking part as well as the 2013 top-ranking event riders.

In the starting box are top UK riders including Pippa Funnell, the only rider to win the Rolex Grand Slam, and Lucy Wiegersma, the world number three.

Mary King, who has ridden at six Olympic Games bringing home two silver and a bronze medal, and Oliver Townend, former Badminton and Burghley winner, are also dusting off their boots for the first major event of the season.

Leicestershire’s Sarah Cohen, who won Belton’s prestigious Grantham Cup in 2013, will be returning to defend her title. Riding five horses during the three-day competition is New Zealand’s Mark Todd who has probably the world’s best horse trials record.

For the first time visitors can enjoy the Horse Trials and the beauty of Belton all under one ticket, thanks to a partnership with the National Trust. For full details and
