A CLUB in Grantham celebrated a special anniversary with a gala dinner.

Members of the Grantham Lions Club, and many friends and relatives, gathered at Belton Park Golf Club last Saturday to mark the club’s 40th charter anniversary.

Grantham Lion president Godfrey Mackinder, who has been a member of the club for 22 years, said: “A memorable evening was enjoyed by all of the 100 guests, which included family and friends along with Lion members from across the area and their partners.”

Lions raise money throughout the year for various local charities and good causes, with recent recipients being Kesteven Rideability, the Journal’s Brick-in-the-Wall Appeal and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Continuing their generosity, the Lions presented a £100 cheque to Grantham Police Cadets representative Pc Tina Demonte during the evening.

Meanwhile, the hard work of several Lions was also recognised.

Mr Mackinder said: “As a tribute to their dedication in serving the Lions, seven of our club members were presented with years’ service chevrons by district governor Lion Ajit Virdi.”

Special guests were Grantham’s Mayor and Mayoress Rob and Delia Hearmon, while, guest speaker was local musician Trevor Leeson, who also provided the evening’s live entertainment.
