A TOWN centre takeaway could be fined £10,000 for employing an illegal worker.

Pizza Place in Grantham Market Place was visited by officers from the UK Border Agency last month. Staff were questioned and their immigration status checked.

A 26-year-old Turkish man was arrested and detained after he was found to be a failed asylum seeker.

The UK Border Agency is now taking action to remove him from the country.

The arrest follows another visit to a Grantham takeaway on 1 March when two illegal workers were caught at Chicken Palace, London Road.

Both businesses now face large fines unless they can prove they took sufficient steps to confirm the right to work of the illegal employees.
