Good old-fashioned entertainment in the form of a puppet show kept youngsters amused on Saturday during the ‘Love Your Market’ event in Grantham.

Although a quiet market day, the performances put on by Ian Selby and Betty Elmer were popular with children - and raised £17 for the Journal Children’s Fund: Christmas Cracker Appeal. This was topped up to £25 by generous district councillor Ian, who put on the puppet show while Betty acted as storyteller.

Betty said: “The day was very interesting and rewarding in many ways.

“The children in the audience loved the performances and we were delighted to be involved in the district council’s ‘Love your market’ promotion.”

Coun Selby added: “May I thank everyone that came along to watch and who contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable event, especially the council staff who went the extra mile to assist us with our puppet show and made us feel most welcome at the event.”
