A TRAIN caught fire at Grantham Station last night (Dec 28), causing delays and disruption for hundreds of passengers.

Fire crews were called to Grantham Station at 10.40pm after the engine of an Inter-City train caught fire. A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said the fire was caused by a blown turbo on the diesel engine, causing severe damage to some internal electrics.

Fire crews were called to the scene but the fire had already been extinguished by the driver.

Commuters travelling north and south were kept waiting on trains outside Grantham Station for around an hour before passengers heading to Grantham and Peterborough were allowed to disembark to make their own way home.
