A man who died in a collision on the A1 at Newark on Thursday (March 9) has been named as Ian Newell, from Grantham.

The 52-year-old, who was driving one of the vehicles involved, died in the collision on the northbound carriageway. The crash, which involved six vehicles, happened at about 7.55am close to the A46.

Mr Newell worked for Lincolnshire County Council, as business and public protection manager. He had worked at the authority since 1993.

Sara Barry, head of safer communities at the county council, said: “Ian was an absolute pleasure to work with and was a dedicated and long-serving member of our Trading Standards team.

“He was energetic, hard-working and the ultimate professional. But more than that, he was a kind and caring man, an asset to the team and a joy to be around.

“He had worked in Trading Standards for over 30 years and was absolutely committed to protecting the public. The team is deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with his family.”

Police Officers are continuing to investigate the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed it or who has Dashcam footage to contact them on 101, quoting incident 137 of March 9, 2017.
