ALTERATIONS to the entrance of Morrisons car park got underway this week.
Workmen arrived on Monday morning and began digging up the section of Wharf Road, which will remain open to traffic.
The remodelling will allow right-turn access into the car park for the first time.
A supermarket spokesman said: “The current layout can cause congestion at busy times and the work we are doing will go a long way towards easing it. We aim to have everything completed in time for Christmas.”
Keeping true to its promise, Morrisons waited until the reopening of Westgate to traffic before commencing the work.
The Journal reported in July how traders launched a successful campaign to prevent the supermarket digging up the road while redevelopment work was underway in Westgate.
They feared the town would become gridlocked if two sets of roadworks were allowed to be carried out simultaneously.
