Storm Ciara: Tree falls feet from car as Grantham road blocked in high winds




A driver had a lucky escape this afternoon when a large tree was blown over by strong winds in Grantham.

Jamie Dickson said the tree crashed down in front of his car just feet away from him. The tree was blown over at the junction of Manthorpe Road and Belton Lane earlier this afternoon.

Police have been diverting traffic as Manthorpe Road remains closed.

An ambulance was also on the scene.

Jamie said: "The ambulance stopped to help me and others to look for anyone who might have been under it. It landed feet from my car."

Other roads in the Grantham area have been blocked today as trees were blown over while storm Ciara raged through the area.

The storm has severely affected road and rail travel.
